Mathematics

We have spent a lot of time learning about place value, subtraction strategies and problem solving.  We will connect our learning to addition strategies and more problem solving.  The children will learn some new math games that can be played at home.  I continue to encourage simple card games to be played at home.  Also visiting math websites such as www.mathplayground.com or www.mathisfun.com would be wonderful.

Science and Social Studies

We are finished our study of "Habitats and Communities' and our introduction to Canada.  Now we will be studying "The People of the North," and "Light."  It will be an exciting time to learn new conepts.

Habitat Project

The students of Apollo 6 have been busy building their 3D models of their habitats.  The children and I have created some criteria for the students to follow to ensure that they are successful.  The project is due by November 19.  The children have been given a lot fo class time to work on their project.

Habitat

We are in the middle of our research projects on "Habitats."  We have explored many different habitats.  Now the children are creating their research projects.  Once the research is complete, the children will publish their work on a poster.  They also created criteria to follow so they will be successful.
Then they will create a 3D model of their habitat.  Save those shoe boxes for the 3D model!

Thanksgiving In Ms. Romeo's Class

I was reading a Thanksgiving story to my class.  It is called, "The Can Do Thanksgiving."  In the story the main character decides to donate food to help others on Thanksgiving.  She wrote her name on the can of peas that she donated.  So, my class was inspired to collect food that we donated to the Transcona Food Bank.  Each student that donated food wrote his/her name on the food item.  We collected over 100 food items.  I received a call from the Transcona Food Bank to "Thank" our class for the donation.  So a class of 25 can make a difference!
